Premier and Reserve Men
Marist men’s squad had a one win, one loss result against Roosters with the Reserves winning 3 -1 and Roosters reversing the result, winning the Premier game 3 -1.
Joseph Kohlhase scored two of the Marist runs in the first game with Chas Rouse and Dave Mackenzie batting runs in. Daniel Chapman and Mackenzie Thorpe were again impressive on the mound sharing the pitching duties for the win.
Joseph and Chas continued some fine hitting into the Premier game recording hits, with Marty Cannons chiming in with another. Marty also featured in the field with a spectacular catch in the outfield. Heinie Shannon made a welcome return to the mound for Marist.
Next week’s games are at Simson Reserve against Eden Roskill and Howick.
The Premier Women’s team had a mixed day on Saturday at home when they beat Western Magpies 9-6, then went down 1-0 to Howick.
In the first game against Magpies, American import Amanda Ogle showed her hitting strength when she had a stand up triple, and an out of park home run at the men’s distance straight over centerfield’s head. With the game tied up in the 5th innings this was an opportunity to shut Magpies down and put Blaire Luna on the mound, who closed out the game for Marist.
In the second game, Marist could not overcome the change of speed against Howick’s pitcher Marissa Berkes. Two errors cost the Premier Women in a tight game with Blaire Luna taking 17 strikeouts for the home team!
