The Marist Men’s team completed a memorable Labour Weekend beating host team Bears 2-0 in the final of the Bears Classic. The Taifau Matai coached team played some entertaining softball, exciting the good crowds with some excellent base running and outstanding defensive plays. Matt Oxley, Black Sox catcher in waiting, combined expertly with pitchers Rhys Mau, and softball legend Heinie Shannon to keep the opposition at bay. Kalin Felise at 14 made his debut on the mound and looked every bit the seasoned pro. Captain Gerry Long continued his impressive form and Nathan Thorpe was also in fantastic form over the weekend. Marty Cannon is in the best form of his career and Joseph Kohlhase, with a loaded bases, stand up triple against Ramblers in the semi-final had a great tournament. The entire team played very well and coach Matai has done a wonderful job in building team and club spirit.
